TTFields + docetaxel is a combination cancer therapy that pairs Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) with the chemotherapeutic agent docetaxel. TTFields are low-intensity, intermediate-frequency alternating electric fields delivered noninvasively via arrays placed on the skin over tumors. They disrupt cancer cell mitosis by exerting physical forces on electrically charged components of dividing cells, leading to impaired mitosis, inhibition of DNA replication and damage response, interference with cell motility, and enhancement of antitumor immunity. Docetaxel is a taxane chemotherapy drug that stabilizes microtubules and inhibits cell division. The combination leverages the multimodal mechanism of TTFields to sensitize tumor cells to chemotherapy effects without increasing systemic toxicity significantly. This regimen has been FDA-approved for metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) patients who have progressed after platinum-based therapy based on phase 3 LUNAR trial results showing improved overall survival compared to docetaxel alone.
