The tuberculosis vaccine from Oxxon Therapeutics is an experimental DNA-based immunotherapeutic candidate designed for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. It was developed using Oxxon's proprietary Hi-8 PrimeBoost technology platform, which typically utilizes a heterologous prime-boost strategy to elicit potent T-cell mediated immune responses. The vaccine functions as an immunostimulant, delivering DNA sequences that encode specific Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens to the host's cells, thereby inducing a targeted immune response against the pathogen. Oxxon Therapeutics, a biotechnology company spun out of Oxford University, was acquired by Oxford BioMedica in 2007. Following this acquisition, the development of the tuberculosis vaccine candidate was not prioritized and is currently considered discontinued.
