Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tulathromycin + ketoprofen is a veterinary combination injectable solution pairing tulathromycin, a long-acting triamilide macrolide antibiotic, with ketoprofen, a racemic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), for the treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and concurrent control of fever in cattle. Tulathromycin exerts bacteriostatic activity by selectively binding to the bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibiting essential protein synthesis, leading to disruption of respiratory pathogens such as Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni, and Mycoplasma bovis, while ketoprofen provides rapid antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects via cyclooxygenase inhibition and reduced prostaglandin and thromboxane A2 synthesis.[1][3][7] A single subcutaneous dose delivering 2.5 mg/kg tulathromycin and 3 mg/kg ketoprofen maintains therapeutic tulathromycin exposure for approximately two weeks and improves early pyrexia and clinical signs compared with tulathromycin alone, offering a convenient one-shot therapy aimed at both infection control and improved animal welfare in feedlot and beef cattle.[1][3][7]
