Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TW102 is a proprietary oral formulation of edaravone, a potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger, being developed by Treeway (specifically through its subsidiary TW001AD B.V.) for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Edaravone is already approved in several countries for the treatment of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and acute ischemic stroke. The drug's mechanism of action involves the neutralization of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the reduction of oxidative stress, which are significant factors in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease, contributing to neuroinflammation and neuronal death. By providing neuroprotection and potentially mitigating the effects of amyloid-beta and tau protein aggregation, TW102 aims to slow the progression of cognitive and functional decline in patients. The candidate has completed Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile in healthy volunteers and is being positioned for further development in Alzheimer's patients.
