A bivalent oral vaccine candidate investigated for the simultaneous prevention of typhoid fever and cholera. The combination consists of two live attenuated bacterial strains: *Salmonella typhi* Ty21a and *Vibrio cholerae* CVD 103-HgR. Ty21a is a widely used live attenuated strain of *S. typhi* that lacks the Vi capsular polysaccharide and is a galE mutant, while CVD 103-HgR is a recombinant strain of *V. cholerae* Inaba 569B with a deletion of the cholera toxin A subunit gene (ctxA). The vaccine is designed to stimulate mucosal and systemic immune responses through oral administration. Clinical studies conducted in the 1990s demonstrated that the two components could be co-administered without compromising the immunogenicity of either strain. While the individual components are marketed as Vivotif and Vaxchora, respectively, this specific fixed-dose combination is not currently marketed as a single product.
