Ulipristal + iron is a combination of two agents used in the management of uterine fibroids and associated anemia. Ulipristal acetate is a selective progesterone receptor modulator that acts by binding with high affinity to the human progesterone receptor, exerting tissue-specific agonist or antagonist effects. Its primary mechanisms include inhibition or delay of ovulation (by suppressing the luteinizing hormone surge) and direct action on fibroids, reducing their size through inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis. Iron supplementation is commonly co-administered to correct anemia resulting from heavy menstrual bleeding associated with uterine fibroids. Clinical studies have shown that ulipristal acetate leads to faster and more efficient correction of anemia than iron alone, as well as greater reduction in myoma (fibroid) size[4][5]. The combination addresses both symptom control (bleeding/fibroid size) and underlying anemia.
