Overview
A combination of **ulodesine**, a purine nucleoside phosphorylase inhibitor, and **allopurinol**, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor. This combination is being investigated for the treatment of **gout** and **hyperuricemia**, particularly in patients who are not adequately controlled with allopurinol monotherapy or who have moderate renal insufficiency. Ulodesine inhibits purine nucleoside phosphorylase, reducing production of uric acid upstream of xanthine oxidase, while allopurinol inhibits xanthine oxidase, further reducing uric acid production. Together, they aim to more effectively lower serum uric acid levels than either agent alone.
