Umbilical cord-derived exosomes are extracellular vesicles harvested from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) of the umbilical cord. These vesicles contain a diverse cargo of proteins, lipids, and microRNAs that facilitate intercellular communication and exert potent anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. In the context of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), these exosomes are investigated for their ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and address underlying neurobiological issues such as neuroinflammation and impaired synaptic connectivity. At the Iffat Anwar Medical Complex, this therapy is being evaluated in a randomized controlled trial, often administered intravenously in conjunction with other treatments like photo-biomodulation and autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to potentially improve behavioral outcomes and cognitive function in children with ASD.
