Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) being developed by the Affiliated Hospital to Academy of Military Medical Sciences for the treatment of lung injury induced by paraquat poisoning. The therapy utilizes the regenerative and immunomodulatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells harvested from human umbilical cords. Administered intravenously, these cells are thought to migrate to damaged lung tissue and exert therapeutic effects through the secretion of paracrine factors. These factors provide anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-fibrotic signals that mitigate the severe alveolar damage and progressive pulmonary fibrosis typically associated with paraquat ingestion. The treatment was evaluated in a Phase I-II clinical trial (NCT02444858) involving a three-dose regimen.
