Overview

This human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell (hUC-MSC) therapy is an allogeneic cell-based biologic being developed by Guangzhou Saliai Stem Cell Science and Technology for the treatment of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). The therapy functions through MSC-driven immunomodulation and paracrine signaling, which aim to suppress the autoimmune response and provide neuroprotection to astrocytes and neurons within the central nervous system. It is currently being evaluated in a large-scale, multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial (hUC-MSC-NMOSD study) in China, targeting AQP4-IgG seropositive patients to assess its efficacy in reducing disease progression and improving motor function. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that these cells can alleviate NMOSD progression by reducing inflammatory infiltration and preserving critical neural cells.
