This investigational allogeneic cell therapy consists of mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cord tissue (UC-MSCs). Developed by Universitas Diponegoro, it is being evaluated as an adjunctive treatment for infants with biliary atresia undergoing Kasai portoenterostomy. The therapy is administered via intraoperative trans-portal vein injection, with the goal of leveraging the immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and pro-regenerative properties of MSCs to reduce liver fibrosis and improve clinical outcomes, such as liver function and overall survival, in patients with this severe hepatobiliary disease.
