This investigational cell therapy consists of allogeneic umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) developed by the Vinmec Research Institute of Stem Cell and Gene Technology. The cells are isolated from the umbilical cords of healthy newborns and expanded under serum-free and animal component-free conditions to passage 5. The therapy is designed to treat neurological sequelae following ischemic stroke by leveraging the neuroprotective, immunomodulatory, and regenerative properties of mesenchymal stem cells. These cells are thought to promote tissue repair and functional recovery through paracrine signaling and modulation of the inflammatory environment in the brain. It is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in Vietnam, comparing the safety and efficacy of intravenous and intrathecal administration routes in combination with standard rehabilitation therapy.
