Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells (UC-MSCs) developed by Alliancells Bioscience Corporation Limited are an allogeneic cell therapy candidate being investigated for the treatment of liver cirrhosis. These multipotent cells are derived from umbilical cord tissue and are characterized by their ability to modulate the immune system and promote tissue repair. In patients with liver cirrhosis, UC-MSCs are administered intravenously to migrate to the liver, where they aim to suppress chronic inflammation, inhibit the activation of hepatic stellate cells responsible for fibrosis, and stimulate the regeneration of functional hepatocytes. This approach seeks to improve liver function and halt or reverse the progression of cirrhotic damage, particularly in cases resulting from alcohol abuse or viral hepatitis.
