Arugula Sciences is developing umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) as a cell therapy for the treatment of chronic inflammatory and degenerative diseases. These cells, also referred to as Medicinal Signaling Cells, are sourced from the umbilical cord, which is recognized for its superior therapeutic potential and robust manufacturing characteristics compared to mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from other sources like bone marrow or adipose tissue. The therapy functions through immunomodulation and regenerative mechanisms, secreting bioactive factors that regulate the immune system and promote the repair of damaged tissues. Currently in the preclinical stage, the program is being prepared for future FDA clinical trials.
