Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of clinical-grade umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) developed by Jianwu Dai at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is specifically designed for the treatment of late-stage radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis, a condition for which few effective treatments exist. The therapy is administered directly into localized lung lesions via fiberoptic bronchoscopy following a local lavage. The mechanism of action is thought to involve the immunomodulatory properties of the MSCs and their ability to reduce the levels of pro-fibrotic cytokines, such as Transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1), thereby potentially halting or reversing the fibrotic process in the lungs.
