Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are multipotent stromal cells derived from the Wharton's jelly of the umbilical cord. Developed and investigated by the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, these cells are being evaluated for their therapeutic potential in treating traumatic nerve fiber injuries. The treatment involves the transplantation of UC-MSCs into the site of injury, typically following surgical procedures such as hematoma removal. The therapeutic mechanism is primarily attributed to the cells' ability to secrete neurotrophic factors and cytokines that modulate the inflammatory environment, promote axonal regeneration, and facilitate the reconstruction of motor circuits. This specific clinical program utilizes advanced neuroimaging techniques, including Blood Oxygen Level-Dependent (BOLD) functional MRI and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), to monitor the anatomical and functional recovery of neural pathways post-transplantation.
