This investigational cell-based therapy, developed by Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital, utilizes umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSCs) for the treatment of decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis. UCMSCs are multipotent stromal cells that exert therapeutic effects through several biological mechanisms, including the modulation of immune responses, reduction of hepatic inflammation and fibrosis, and the promotion of tissue regeneration. Additionally, these cells may potentially differentiate into hepatocyte-like cells to aid in liver repair. The therapy is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 dose-escalation study to determine its safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy when administered via intravenous infusion or hepatic artery injection in patients with advanced liver disease.
