This is a combination therapy consisting of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) and heparin. UC-MSCs are multipotent stromal cells capable of differentiating into various cell types, including osteocytes and neurons, and are known for their immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties. Heparin is an anticoagulant that also modulates cellular differentiation pathways. In this combination, heparin has been shown to interact with the WWTR1 protein in UC-MSCs, promoting osteogenic differentiation by upregulating genes such as RUNX2 and COL1A1 while downregulating pluripotency markers like OCT4 and Nanog[2]. The combination may be used experimentally to enhance tissue repair or regeneration in conditions such as diabetic foot ulcers or other degenerative diseases[5][2][3].
