Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) developed by the Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital, China, are an allogeneic cell therapy being investigated for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and critical limb ischemia (CLI). These stem cells are derived from the umbilical cord and possess potent immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and pro-angiogenic properties. When administered via intramuscular injection into ischemic limbs, UC-MSCs are intended to stimulate the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) and improve blood flow to the affected tissues, thereby reducing pain, promoting wound healing, and preventing amputation in patients with severe arterial blockages.
