Umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal cells + platelet-rich plasma (Liaocheng People's Hospital) is an experimental combination cell therapy being evaluated for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The treatment involves the intra-articular injection of allogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells derived from the umbilical cord (UC-MSCs), suspended in platelet-rich plasma (PRP). UC-MSCs are multipotent cells that exhibit potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, potentially slowing cartilage degradation and promoting a pro-regenerative environment within the joint. PRP acts as a bioactive scaffold and a source of concentrated growth factors (such as TGF-β, PDGF, and VEGF) that enhance the proliferation and chondrogenic differentiation of the MSCs. This synergistic approach aims to alleviate pain and improve joint function in patients with chronic degenerative joint disease.
