Overview

This is a cell-based therapeutic intervention being studied by Anhui Provincial Hospital for the treatment of higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). The treatment involves unrelated umbilical cord blood microtransplantation (UCBM) combined with chemotherapy agents, specifically venetoclax plus either decitabine or azacitidine. The cellular component consists of hematopoietic stem cells and other immune cells from unrelated donor umbilical cord blood, which are used to reconstitute the patient's hematopoietic system. Venetoclax is a BCL-2 inhibitor, while decitabine and azacitidine are hypomethylating agents. This combination aims to improve outcomes in MDS patients by combining the graft-versus-leukemia effect of the cord blood with the anti-leukemic activity of the chemotherapy.
