Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Protego Biopharma is developing a small-molecule activator of the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR) pathway for the treatment of various liver diseases. This program is part of the company's broader proteostasis platform, which leverages research from Scripps Research to address protein misfolding disorders. By pharmacologically activating the UPR, the drug is intended to enhance the endoplasmic reticulum's capacity to fold proteins and degrade misfolded aggregates, thereby addressing the underlying cellular stress and pathology associated with hepatic proteinopathies. The program is currently in the lead optimization stage of development.
