Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calmuril Fat Cream is a topical emollient and keratolytic formulation containing 10% urea and 5% lactic acid. Developed by ACO Hud Nordic AB, it is designed to treat dry, hyperkeratotic skin conditions such as ichthyosis and serves as an adjunct therapy for atopic dermatitis (atopic eczema). The combination of urea and lactic acid works by binding water in the stratum corneum (humectant effect) and softening the skin's outer layer (keratolytic effect), which helps to restore the skin barrier, reduce peeling, and provide an antipruritic (anti-itch) effect. It is available in various formats, including tubes and jars, and has been used as a reference cream in clinical trials evaluating skin barrier function.
