Drug intelligence / Profile preview
urea + propylene glycol (G001) is a fixed-dose combination topical cream developed by Galenica AB, containing 5% urea and 20% propylene glycol. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of dry skin (xerosis) and the prevention of relapse in patients with atopic dermatitis. Urea acts as a potent humectant by increasing the water-binding capacity of the stratum corneum and exhibits keratolytic properties by softening keratin, which facilitates the exfoliation of dry, scaly skin. Propylene glycol serves as a complementary humectant and solvent, enhancing skin hydration and acting as a penetration enhancer to improve the efficacy of urea. This combination is specifically designed to strengthen the skin's natural barrier function and prolong the flare-free interval in individuals prone to atopic eczema.
