Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Urea + salicylic acid is a topical combination therapy widely used as a keratolytic and emollient for the treatment of hyperkeratotic skin and nail conditions. Urea acts as a potent humectant and mild keratolytic, drawing moisture into the stratum corneum and breaking hydrogen bonds in epidermal keratin to soften the skin. Salicylic acid, a beta-hydroxy acid, acts synergistically as a desmolytic and keratolytic agent by dissolving the intercellular cement that binds keratinocytes, facilitating the shedding of dead epidermal cells. Together, they promote debridement, reduce scaling, and enhance skin hydration in conditions such as psoriasis, keratosis pilaris, calluses, corns, and xerosis.
