urea + sodium chloride cream

Urea + sodium chloride cream is a topical combination formulation used primarily as a moisturizer and keratolytic agent for the treatment of dry, rough, or scaly skin conditions. Urea acts as an emollient and keratolytic by increasing moisture in the stratum corneum, softening and dissolving keratin to help dead skin cells shed more easily and improve hydration[1][4]. Sodium chloride (salt) is included to potentially enhance the hydrating effect by influencing water retention in the outer skin layers. Clinical studies comparing creams with both urea and sodium chloride versus urea alone suggest that both are effective at improving hydration of the stratum corneum in elderly subjects with dry skin[5][8]. The combination may be used for xerosis (dry skin), ichthyosis, psoriasis, eczema, or other hyperkeratotic dermatoses.
