This combination therapy is a dual-trigger protocol used for final oocyte maturation in women undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) for assisted reproductive technologies such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). It consists of urinary human chorionic gonadotropin (uHCG), which acts as a surrogate for the natural luteinizing hormone (LH) surge by binding to the LH/hCG receptor, and a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa), specifically triptorelin. The GnRHa induces an endogenous surge of both LH and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. This dual approach aims to optimize oocyte maturation, improve oocyte yield, and potentially enhance clinical pregnancy rates compared to a single trigger, particularly in specific patient populations. The protocol was evaluated by Mansoura University to determine if post-trigger serum HCG levels could predict ICSI outcomes.
