This multi-peptide cancer vaccine, developed by Teikyo University, is designed for the treatment of unresectable, advanced, or recurrent esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The vaccine consists of five HLA-A*2402-restricted epitope peptides derived from specific tumor-associated antigens: up-regulated lung cancer 10 (URLC10), TTK protein kinase (TTK), insulin-like growth factor-II mRNA binding protein 3 (KOC1/IGF2BP3), vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGFR1), and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2). By targeting these antigens, the vaccine aims to induce a robust cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response against both the cancer cells and the tumor neovasculature. In clinical settings, the peptides are emulsified with the immunological adjuvant Montanide ISA51 and administered subcutaneously, often in combination with standard chemoradiotherapy (cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil).
