Overview

Urokinase + dornase alfa is a combination of two biologic drugs, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Urokinase is a serine protease that acts as a thrombolytic agent by converting plasminogen to plasmin, thereby promoting the breakdown of fibrin clots. It is primarily used for the treatment of pulmonary embolism and myocardial infarction, as well as for clearing intravenous lines[6]. Dornase alfa is a recombinant form of human deoxyribonuclease I (DNase I), produced in genetically modified Chinese hamster ovary cells. It enzymatically cleaves extracellular DNA in the lungs, reducing mucus viscosity and improving airway clearance in patients with cystic fibrosis[1][4]. This combination may be considered for off-label or investigational use where both mucolytic and fibrinolytic actions are desired.
