Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VALERGEN-DP, VALERGEN-DS, and VALERGEN-BT are standardized allergen extract vaccines developed and manufactured by the Centro Nacional de Biopreparados (BioCen) in Cuba. These therapeutic products are derived from three species of domestic mites: *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* (DP), *Dermatophagoides siboney* (DS), and *Blomia tropicalis* (BT). They are indicated for the diagnosis and treatment of allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma. The vaccines function through allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT), where progressively increasing doses of the allergens are administered to desensitize the patient's immune system, thereby inducing immunological tolerance and reducing clinical symptoms upon subsequent exposure. The products are available in subcutaneous (injectable) and sublingual formulations for therapy, as well as a nasal provocation test and skin prick test for diagnostic purposes. The sublingual formulations were the first of their kind to receive regulatory approval from CECMED in Cuba.
