Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vamikibart + ranibizumab is a combination of two intravitreal drugs being investigated for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME). **Vamikibart** (also known as RO7200220 or RG6179) is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that targets **interleukin-6 (IL-6)**, a cytokine implicated in intraocular inflammation and retinal vascular leakage, thereby aiming to reduce retinal swelling and improve vision. **Ranibizumab** (marketed as Lucentis) is a monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits **vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A)**, preventing abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage in the retina. The combination is expected to provide both anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic therapeutic effects, potentially offering additive or synergistic benefit in managing DME. This combination is under clinical evaluation (Phase 2) and is administered as intravitreal injections[1][2][3][4][5][6].
