vancomycin + amphotericin B + gentamicin

This antimicrobial cocktail, comprising vancomycin, amphotericin B (Fungizone), and gentamicin, is used as a research intervention by Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris in the ENERGISED clinical trial. It is designed to achieve temporary depletion of the gut microbiota in healthy volunteers and patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Vancomycin is a glycopeptide targeting Gram-positive bacteria, gentamicin is an aminoglycoside targeting Gram-negative bacteria, and amphotericin B is a polyene antifungal. The combination is used to study the mechanistic link between gut flora and immune cell energy metabolism, assessed via SCENITH and 13C-labeled inulin tracking.
