Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This antibiotic cocktail is a combination of three broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents—vancomycin, ciprofloxacin, and metronidazole—specifically utilized as a microbiome-depleting pretreatment in clinical research for alopecia areata. Developed by Lindsey Bordone at Columbia University, the regimen is administered orally for three days prior to fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). The goal of this combination is to reduce the existing gut microbial burden to enhance the successful engraftment of donor microbiota, exploring the therapeutic potential of the gut-skin axis in treating immune-mediated hair loss.
