This varicella vaccine is a live attenuated preparation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) used to induce active immunity for the prevention of chickenpox. The Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Beijing CDC) has been the lead sponsor for Phase 4 clinical trials evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of a two-dose vaccination regimen in healthy children aged 1 to 12 years. This two-dose schedule was implemented in Beijing in 2012 to provide more robust protection than the previous single-dose recommendation. The vaccine is typically administered as a 0.5 mL injection and is designed to stimulate both humoral and cell-mediated immune responses against the virus.
