Overview
The varicella vaccine is a live attenuated biologic agent designed to induce active immunity against the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the causative agent of chickenpox. In the context of a Phase 4 clinical trial led by the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, this commercial vaccine was evaluated as part of a broader immunization schedule for HIV-infected adults who had achieved undetectable viral loads through highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). The study's primary objective was to investigate the safety and immunomodulatory effects of repeated antigenic stimulation on HIV viral load, resistance development, and the recovery of specific humoral and cellular immune responses in this patient population.
