**VAX102 + trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine** is a combination immunization consisting of VAX102 (a recombinant fusion protein vaccine candidate) administered together with a trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV). VAX102 comprises four tandem copies of the consensus ectodomain of the influenza A M2 matrix protein (M2e) fused to Salmonella typhimurium flagellin, a Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) agonist. TIV contains inactivated viral components from three influenza viruses: one A(H1N1), one A(H3N2), and one B (Victoria lineage) virus. The combination is designed to increase the immunogenicity of seasonal flu vaccines by stimulating both the adaptive antibody response to traditional hemagglutinin (HA) components and strong cross-protective, non-neutralizing immunity to a conserved part of influenza A (M2e). Preclinical and early clinical data indicate that VAX102 acts as a potent adjuvant as well as a broadening agent for TIV by activating innate immunity via TLR5. This combination has been evaluated for improved immunogenicity in healthy adults and was intended for future development in high-risk populations including the elderly[1].
