Overview

Vebonin is a brand name for a sustained-release microsphere formulation of triptorelin acetate, a synthetic decapeptide agonist of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor. As a potent GnRH analogue, triptorelin initially stimulates the pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). However, continuous administration via the microsphere delivery system leads to the down-regulation of GnRH receptors and desensitization of pituitary gonadotropes. This results in a profound suppression of gonadotropin secretion and a subsequent reduction in sex steroid levels to castrate or postmenopausal levels. In the context of assisted reproductive technology (ART), Vebonin is utilized in long GnRH agonist protocols to prevent premature LH surges during controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. It is also indicated for the treatment of hormone-dependent conditions such as advanced prostate cancer, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids. The drug is manufactured by Chengdu Tiantai Pharmaceutical in China.
