This is a combination cancer immunotherapy consisting of two synthetic peptides derived from vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGFR1) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2). The vaccines are designed to induce cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses specifically targeting cells expressing these receptors, which are commonly found on tumor vasculature as well as some tumor cells. By stimulating an immune response against these targets, the therapy aims to inhibit tumor angiogenesis and directly kill tumor cells. Clinical studies have demonstrated safety and preliminary efficacy in patients with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2)-related progressive schwannomas, with improvements in hearing, reductions in tumor volume, and induction of both VEGFR1-specific and VEGFR2-specific CTLs. The approach has also been explored for other cancers such as high-grade glioma, gastrointestinal cancers, renal cell carcinoma, biliary tract cancer (as part of multi-peptide cocktails), and esophageal cancer[1][2][3][4][5].
