Drug intelligence / Profile preview
"Vehicle and Locoid Lipocream (R)" is a topical co-administration regimen consisting of the inert vehicle base of retapamulin ointment and Locoid Lipocream (hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1% cream). This combination was evaluated as an active comparator arm in a Phase 4 clinical trial (NCT00871208) sponsored by St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center to investigate whether adding the topical antibiotic Altabax (retapamulin) to topical corticosteroid therapy improves the clearance of atopic dermatitis in pediatric patients. Hydrocortisone butyrate is a low-potency topical corticosteroid that binds to the glucocorticoid receptor, translocating to the nucleus to suppress the transcription of pro-inflammatory genes and reduce cytokine production.
