VELGRAFT is a living cellular construct developed by Ayu, Inc. for the management of chronic diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). It is a combination product composed of allogeneic human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and MSCs differentiated into adipocytes, seeded onto a porous chitosan-gelatin matrix. The product is applied topically to ulcers that have already attained granulation tissue. The MSCs used in VELGRAFT are derived from FDA-registered bone marrow sources and are tested for HLA-2 markers to minimize the risk of immune rejection. Additionally, the cells are cultured in xenogeneic-free medium to reduce sensitivity to animal products. VELGRAFT functions as a regenerative scaffold, providing both living cells and a structural matrix to facilitate the healing of complex wounds.
