Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VELGRAFT is an allogeneic, living cellular construct developed by Ayu, Inc. for the management of chronic diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). The product is a combination biologic-device consisting of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and MSCs differentiated into adipocytes, both seeded onto a porous chitosan-gelatin matrix. VELGRAFT is designed to be applied topically to ulcers that have attained granulation tissue. The therapeutic mechanism involves the delivery of viable cells that provide structural support and secrete a variety of growth factors and cytokines, which collectively promote angiogenesis, modulate inflammation, and accelerate tissue regeneration. To minimize the risk of immune rejection, the MSCs are screened for HLA markers, and the cells are cultured in xenogeneic-free media to avoid sensitivity to animal-derived products.
