Venlafaxine + lamotrigine is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, each with distinct mechanisms of action, sometimes used together in clinical practice for the management of mood disorders such as bipolar depression and treatment-resistant depression. Venlafaxine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) that increases synaptic concentrations of serotonin and norepinephrine by inhibiting their reuptake at the presynaptic terminal, with weak inhibition of dopamine reuptake[4][7]. Lamotrigine is an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer that inhibits voltage-sensitive sodium channels, stabilizes neuronal membranes, and modulates the release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate[3][5]. The combination has been reported to be well tolerated in some case reports for adolescent-onset bipolar II disorder when standard treatments are insufficient[1]. There is no fixed-dose commercial product; this combination refers to co-administration under medical supervision.
