VeraFlo + Prontosan

VeraFlo + Prontosan is a combination wound management therapy that integrates negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) using the VeraFlo system with the instillation of Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution. The VeraFlo system (also known as V.A.C. VeraFlo or 3M Veraflo Therapy) delivers controlled negative pressure to wounds while periodically instilling topical solutions such as Prontosan directly into the wound bed. This approach aims to cleanse wounds by removing infectious material and debris, reduce bioburden, prevent biofilm formation, and promote granulation tissue formation. Prontosan is an antimicrobial wound irrigation solution containing polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) and betaine surfactant; it acts by disrupting microbial cell membranes and preventing biofilm development in acute and chronic wounds[1][5][8]. The combined use of these therapies has been shown to decrease operating room visits, time to final surgical procedure, length of hospital stay for infected or critically colonized wounds requiring serial debridement[3][7]. Primary indications include infected wounds (such as traumatic injuries, post-operative wounds), chronic ulcers (diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers), burns, and complex surgical sites[4][8].
