Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vergenix STR is a tissue-engineered medical device consisting of a recombinant human type I collagen (rhCollagen) gel, which is designed to be combined with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) at the point of care. Developed by CollPlant using a proprietary tobacco plant-based expression system, the rhCollagen serves as a bioactive scaffold. When injected into soft tissue injuries such as chronic tendinopathies, the mixture forms a collagen-fibrin matrix that recruits cells to the site and traps platelets, facilitating the sustained release of growth factors to promote healing. The product received CE Mark approval in 2016 for indications including lateral epicondylar tendinopathy (tennis elbow) and Achilles tendinopathy.
