Overview
ViaNase + insulin is an investigational drug-device combination therapy developed by Dr. Suzanne Craft at Wake Forest University in collaboration with Kurve Therapeutics for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The therapy utilizes the ViaNase device, a specialized intranasal atomizer designed for precision nose-to-brain delivery, to transport regular insulin directly to the central nervous system via the olfactory region of the upper nasal cavity. This approach bypasses the blood-brain barrier to modulate brain insulin signaling, which is often impaired in patients with neurodegenerative disorders. The combination was evaluated in the Phase 2 SNIFF (Study of Nasal Insulin to Fight Forgetfulness) trial, where it aimed to improve memory and cognitive function by addressing brain insulin resistance.
