Overview
vildagliptin + empagliflozin + metformin is a fixed-dose triple combination therapy being developed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This formulation integrates three anti-hyperglycemic agents with distinct and complementary mechanisms of action: vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases incretin levels to stimulate insulin secretion; empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that promotes glucose excretion via the kidneys; and metformin, a biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. The developer, Guangzhou Yueyang Pharmaceutical Development (also known as TransThera), utilizes specialized drug delivery technology to create a sustained-release version of this triple combination. This approach aims to simplify complex treatment regimens, improve patient compliance, and provide more stable glycemic control compared to the administration of individual components.
