Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vildagliptin + voglibose is an oral fixed-dose combination therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Vildagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases the levels of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), by preventing their degradation. This leads to enhanced glucose-dependent insulin secretion, improved β-cell function, and reduced glucagon secretion[3][6]. Voglibose is an α-glucosidase inhibitor that delays carbohydrate absorption in the intestine, thereby reducing postprandial blood glucose spikes[8]. The combination provides complementary mechanisms to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Clinical studies show additive or synergistic effects on lowering blood glucose without increasing hypoglycemia risk[4][5].
