This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three small-molecule antineoplastic agents: vincristine, methotrexate, and etoposide. Each drug has a distinct mechanism of action targeting cancer cell proliferation: - Vincristine is a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation in mitotic spindles, arresting cells in metaphase. - Methotrexate is an antimetabolite and antifolate agent that inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, blocking DNA synthesis and cell replication. - Etoposide is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that induces DNA strand breaks by preventing the re-ligation of DNA during replication. This combination may be used as part of multi-agent regimens for various malignancies (notably high-risk gestational trophoblastic tumors), though it is more commonly found with additional agents such as actinomycin D or cyclophosphamide[1][7]. The regimen exploits synergistic cytotoxicity while aiming to minimize overlapping toxicities.
