Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VIR-2218 + peginterferon alfa-2a is an investigational combination therapy for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. VIR-2218 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to inhibit the production of all HBV proteins (X, polymerase, S and core), which may be acting as immune tolerogens. Peginterferon alfa-2a is a modified form of recombinant human interferon that stimulates the body's innate antiviral response by binding to human type 1 interferon receptors and activating the JAK/STAT pathway. This combination approach is being evaluated for its potential to achieve a functional cure for chronic HBV infection.
