Viral Specific VST is an allogeneic, third-party donor-derived cell therapy developed by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center for the treatment of opportunistic viral infections in immunocompromised patients. The therapy consists of virus-specific T-lymphocytes (VSTs) that are ex vivo expanded and sensitized to target antigens from five distinct viruses: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), adenovirus (ADV), BK virus (BKV), and JC virus. These T-cells are selected from a bank of healthy donors based on partial HLA matching with the recipient. Upon infusion, the VSTs provide immediate cellular immunity to control viral replication and treat invasive diseases such as post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder, hemorrhagic cystitis, and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in patients who have failed conventional antiviral therapy.
